Messing about on the river

There is nothing better than slowly making your way down a river, watching the world go by. As soon as you get on board, you drop back in time to when to travel a mile to took 2-3 hours, only the sound of the birds and the river. To be able to travel at you own speed taking your accommodation with you. We have been working with this hotel now for well over 20 years. The hotel is famous for its service and facilities it is able to offer to its clients. The hotel is situated at Babacombe and over looks the sea, there is a wealth of nearby attractions such theatre, restaurants, pubs, Mary Church, shopping precinct the cliffs railway and the beach which is accessable. Torquay is an ideal place to visit, other increasing towns and cities with there attractions such as Dartmouth a boat trip up the river, a drive accross the wild and beautiful Dartmoor, stopping for cream teas at the two bridges. Visit the historic city of Plymouth, Buckfast Abbey, there are many more places to see and visit or just sit back at the hotel in it's gardens overlooking the sea.

For those people who enjoy self-catering we will start with the area of Norfolk, we have two excellent accommodation in Norfolk, the first being Hall Farm Cottages. These are situated in the heart of the Norfolk Broads at Horning, the luxury 2 and 3 bedroom cottages have there own private terrace and many are built around a central court yard and have superb views over the valley and the river. Whether you require a central base for touring the broads, beaches or nature reserves of Norfolk or just wish to relax in the piece and quite of the countryside an do little walking, then these cottages are ideal. Each of the cottages are spacious and offer ample accommodation and are fully equiped to the highest standard. A number of these have been specially built and designed for clients who are confined to a wheelchair offering role in showers, pull down bars, wall bars, wider door ways and easy access for wheelchairs. There are a number of designs and sizes, ranging from parties of 2 upto 6/8 people. The cottages offers ideal areas if you wish to go fishing or boating, it has a small snooker/pool/table tennis area and a small bar area.

Set Right on the side of the Norfolk Boards

King Lion Cottages

For those people who would prefer to be right on the Broads we would would thoroughly recommend King Lion Cottages. These cottages are set right on the broads, they are typical designed shalet type cottages which we refer to as lodges, they sleep from 2-8 people and are designed with a large lounge, kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms and a car parking area, and you can walk out of your cottage right down to the edge of the river. We would advise that if you have small children this particular accommodation would not be suitable because of the danager of them falling into the river. These lodges have been designed with different types of disablilities in mind, with those who are totally confined to a wheelchair and need to have a lodge with role in showers, or for the more able bodied. You will find 5 lodges superbly laid out along the river.

In the local area you will find a leisure centre, with swimming pool, gym, sauna etc and just minutes away you will find the popular Ferry Inn, and there are villages and shops just a quarter mile away with Norwich is just 12 miles and Great Yarmouth is 17 miles. One other unique thing about this accommodation is that you can hire an electric day boat, this day boat has been designed to take wheelchairs and for those who wish, you can then hire this and travel up and down the Broads enjoying an exciting whole day cruising, the boat itself can take up to 3 wheelchairs and a 4 passengers joystick control is required with a toilet on board. It is an excellent boat to enjoy a unique trip on the Broads.

Our hotel is The Bond Hotel which has been espeically designed for disabled people, it has recently undergone renovation and is now an award winning hotel for all types of disability. Set on the prominard just behind the main amusements at the bottom of Blackpool it is ideally situated for people confined to a wheelchair. Your introduction to The Bond Hotel begins at the flat entrance with fully automatic doors leading to reception which is man 24 hours a day, here you will be greeted by friendly helpfull staff who can provide guests with information on disabled travel and wheelchair accessable hire services. This hotel welcomes both able and disabled guests, great care and thought has been taken to provide comfortable homely surroundings while at the same time considering every detail to give accessablitiy to all. All corridors, rooms and doors are ample wide enough to monevure wheelchairs easily, together with light switches, lift buttons have been lowered for easy reach, moreover 2 lifts with one being automatic and the other semi-automatic both wheel chair accessable to all floors. We must stess however that guests must be able to look after themselves, as the hotel does not offer careers.

Norbrick Castle - Blackpool

This large sea fronted hotel north of the town centre, but right on the northshore sea front over looking sandy beaches. The hotel has reserved parking bays, ramp to entrance, revolving swing doors, the main public rooms are on the ground as is the uni-sex W.C., and lift to all floors which is wheelchair accessable. the hotel offers 19 adapted bedrooms for the disabled guests, they offer shower room with room to circle a wheelchair, role in shower, hand rails, space to side to side transfer to W.C., all bedrooms have colour television, direct dial telephone, hair dryers and tea/coffee making facilities and that's not all. The hotel has it's own 36 seater cinema, health and fitness with indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, solerium, steam room, creche and hair and beauty treatment rooms. The hotel restaurants include Copper Jacks theme bar, Boston Steak out which is an american family diner complete with 60ft childrens play area and lastly a Carvery restaurant. We should point out that this is an extremly large hotel and can get very busy at the height of the season times, also, there will be a number of children will be on sit at any one time.

But saying this, it is an absolutely fabulous hotel and early booking is necessary as the hotel will be full during the times of the Blackpool lights and holidays seasons.

Boarder Country

Once again we come back to self-catering, for those people who want to visit around this area we have an exciting new self-catering complex called Bently Mill. It is a small family farm holiday complex run by resident proprieters, Pam and Ian. It is situated in the beautiful border country, it offers fredom to tour and relax and tone upin their sauna, solerium etc or gymnasium etc, golf and fishing are available, pets under control are welcome, baby sitting is available and children will enjoy the play area, mill stream, pony treaking, pet lambs, goats, cats, dogs and horses, stabling are all available on site. Full day stable managment is available including a light lunch and a minimum of 1 hours riding.

All apartments in this converted 18th century granery mill are individualy furnished and tastefully decorated to a high standard, central heating and electric fires are included in the price together with bed linen, but please bring your own towels. All have colour television conected with sky and video link, fridge, microwave and electric cookers with the laundry and games rooms are opened daily. The nearest village is approximately 7 miles away with a post office and petrol station. Several pubs and hotels are in the area and offer either bar or restaurant meals and children are welcome in most, and you may wish to visit the local pub that offers excellent meals.

The accommodation has garden and sun decks that are ramped, special aids can be hired and there is an accessable supermarket and pubs in the area.
